Rustic Cabins
Rustic cabins are ski-in or snowshoe-in cabins that will most likely be cold when you arrive and have a private outhouse close by. They are heated by a wood stove that you start and operate, and water is carried in along with your food and bedding.
For the 2025/26 season there are two sets of Rustic cabins, Angela’s Cabins, that Angela will be renting (contact 906-364-4139 or [email protected]), and the rest are Foundation Cabins that the Foundation will be renting (https://abrtrails.com/cabin-rentals/). The Foundation cabins include Cherry, Balsam, Hemlock, and Rockfence (contact 906-262-0122 or [email protected]).
Rascals Cabin
Our only dog friendly Rustic cabin and yes of course it is located on the dog friendly trails across the road. There are designated parking spaces for Rascals. There is not an additional charge for dogs, but the maximum number of dogs is 2. It is expected that the owners clean up dog poop.
The cabin is 14 ft by 20 foot with 4 beds in the form of 2 bunks. 55x 80 inches. The 3 inch mattresses and seat cushions are reversable, one side is vinyl one side is cloth.
The fenced in dog kennel 14 ft by 20 ft is out the back and the out house is as well.
The cabin has a concrete floor and is heated with a wood stove.
Priced at $ 120 weekday nights and $150 for Holidays and weekend nights. A close sauna is available ask at booking.
Kindling, newspaper and toilet paper are stocked in the dog trail camper shed located at the entrance to the dog trails just past the fence. Your water containers get filled in that same shed as well.
The sauna is available from 4:00 – 5:30pm.
Sand Pond Cabin
One of the original cabins that was remodeled a few years back with new windows and siding.
The cabin is located overlooking the pond at the intersection of River Trail and the end of Popple Flats,.just down from Pit Point.
The cabin is 16 ft by 24 ft with 4 beds in the form of 2 bunks. One bunk is 60 x 80 inches The other is 40 inches by 80. The mattresses are new foam 5 inches thick with cloth covers.
The out house is out the back door.
There is a small private change room in the rear heated porch area with the firewood.
The cabin has a concrete floor and is heated with a wood stove.
Priced at $120 weekday nights and $150 for Holidays and weekend nights. This includes a nightly 1- ½ hour slot in the Rustic Sauna located at the pond from 5:30-7 PM.
Sand Point Cabin
One of the original cabins that was remodeled last year with new paint door and windows.
The cabin is located on a small knoll back past the ponds at Blueberry and River Trail. This cabin is very private set off the ski trail about 40 yards on the knoll.
The cabin is 14 ft by 16 ft and has a sleeping loft with 3 full size foam mattresses on the floor. The mattresses are softer foam 3 inches thick.
The out house is around the back.
The cabin has a wood floor and is heated with a wood stove.
Priced at $90 weekday nights and $110 for Holidays and weekend. This includes a nightly 1- ½ hour slot in the Rustic Sauna located at the pond from 4-5:30 PM.
Tamarack Cabin
A small, 2 person cabin overlooking the pond right where River Trail opens up.
The cabin is 10 ft by 14 ft with 1large bed 55x 110 inches The mattress is foam 4 inches thick with a cloth cover.
The out house is close by.
The cabin has a wood floor and is heated with a small effecient Jotul wood stove.
Priced at $60 weekday nights and $75 for Holidays and weekend. This includes a nightly 1- ½ hour slot in the Rustic Sauna located at the pond from 3:00-4 PM.

Rustic Cabin Sauna
We have a sauna available for “Angelas Rustic Cabins” (Sand Pond/ Sand Point and Tamarack). The sauna cost is part of the cabin price. Tamarack Cabin has the sauna 3-4pm, Sand Point has the sauna 4-5:30pm, and Sand Pond has the sauna 5:30-7pm. The first cabin is in charge of lighting the fire if it is not lit, the other cabins maintain the fire in the sauna woodstove. There is no running water or electricity. Melting snow in the cabin is used for washing up or throwing on the rocks, bring your own towel and maintain the fire in the woodstove safely. This is a private sauna for the 3 cabins listed above from 3-7pm.
Rustic Cabin Notes
A charcoal pedestal grill is located outside, bring your charcoal. There is a cast iron fry pan and a water kettle for boiling water. Some cabins have additional pots and dishes that other campers have left.
Kindling, newspaper and toilet paper are available at a small shack by the Rustic Sauna for Tamarack, Sand Pond and Sandpoint and the Rustic Sauna. There is a designated sled area in the Camper Shack at the trailhead, your water containers can be filled at the wax and restroom barn. Rascals cabin has its own building for supplies and water behind the Big Barn and has a designated parking area. Rascals, Spanky’s, Froggy’s are dog friendly and have their supplies at the entrance to the dog trails.
Some cabins have puzzles, card decks and games left by past campers.
Be sure to sign in the cabin log book and read some of the journal entries.
Park in the designated area to keep the plow driver happy. Access to the cabins is by skiing down the River Trail or by hiking in on snowshoes on the cabin/snowshoe trail. Please do not walk on the ski trail to keep the groomers
happy.
Ski tickets and equipment rental is available at the trailhead at an additional cost. It is required that you pay for at least a one day ski ticket if you are staying in the Rustic Cabins.
